6 Tips for a Fun (and Sustainable) Summer
Summertime has arrived! As your friendly neighborhood climate change advocates, we’re here to remind you that it is so easy to be wasteful during summertime activities. To help you out, here are 6 super simple changes you can make to ensure a sustainably cool summer.
Modify Your Menu
Salmon kebabs may sound delicious, but feeding your family with farm-raised fish can greatly damage the planet. Consider swinging by your local market to find out what is in season and build your menu from there. You may find a new recipe along the way!
Cut Your Chemicals
Many sunblocks and bug sprays are packed with unnecessarily harmful ingredients for the earth. Keep our planet and your family safe by using natural alternatives.
Get Flexible With Your Flatware
We get it, dishes are no fun, especially when you’re out and about enjoying this beautiful planet of ours. Lucky for us, compostable flatware can be found in many supermarkets AND online! This small adjustment in your next outing could save the planet hundreds of years of slow degradation.
Ban the Bottle
Hydration is mandatory in the summertime (and all the time!) However, plastic bottles are not. Ban the bottle at your next activity! Bring large, reusable jugs and your favorite cups and bottles for water.
Skip the Straw
500 million straws are used in the United States every day. Most of us don’t need straws to consume liquids, but if you can’t go without one, try a reusable straw next time.
Games Can Be Green
Childhood used to be so much simpler. No screens. No video games. Just plain creativity. Playing tag, finding seashells, looking for funny shaped rocks, watching the clouds and racing through the park are just a few of the options available to families hoping to reduce waste at their next gathering.
